Charleston, SC – On September 21, 2024, two local organizations, The BEE Collective and the Charleston Alliance for Fair Employment, will join forces to host the inaugural Childcare Worker Circle. This transformative event aims to unite childcare workers from across Charleston in a collaborative effort to address workplace challenges and build collective worker power.
The event will take place from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at 1142 Morrison Drive in Charleston. Designed as a worker-led initiative, the Childcare Worker Circle will provide a safe and supportive space where attendees can openly discuss their experiences, challenges, and opportunities for improvement within the childcare industry.
This gathering marks a significant step in a larger movement to empower some of Charleston’s most essential yet under-recognized workers—those who care for the city’s children. Attendees will gain valuable insights into their rights as workers in South Carolina, explore strategies for building solidarity among peers, and develop a sense of community with others who share similar experiences.
Key aspects of the event include:
- Education on Worker Rights: A focus on empowering participants with knowledge about their legal rights as childcare workers in South Carolina.
- Building Worker Power: Connecting with fellow childcare workers to discuss strategies for improving workplace conditions and fostering a stronger collective voice.
- Confidentiality and Trust: Creating a space where privacy is prioritized, ensuring that workers feel safe sharing their experiences.
- Celebrating Solidarity: Encouraging unity to push for fair and equitable treatment across the childcare industry.
All childcare workers, along with those in related fields, are invited to participate in the event. Refreshments will be provided, and a spirit of community and mutual support will guide the discussions as workers come together to explore ways to improve their working conditions and advocate for themselves.
The Childcare Worker Circle reflects an important push for equitable treatment and a recognition of the critical role that childcare workers play in the Charleston community.
