North Charleston, S.C. – October 15, 2024 – The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has modernized its Sex Offender Registry by introducing signature tablets, streamlining operations to save both time and money. This upgrade allows offenders to electronically sign required documents, eliminating the need for paper copies. Once signed, the documents are immediately processed through the CCSO system.
The initiative, aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing supply costs, was made possible by a grant from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), which provided each law enforcement agency in the state with one tablet at no cost. Charleston County purchased four additional tablets for $2,000.56, using technology from Topaz Systems Incorporated for the electronic signature process.
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for managing the sex offender registry, which operates on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., and on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
By going virtual, the registry aims to enhance workflow efficiency while cutting down on operational expenses for Charleston County taxpayers.
