Charleston, SC – A months-long investigation by the Charleston Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit led to the arrest of 25-year-old Montez Antowan Forrest on multiple gun and drug charges. The investigation, which began in February 2024 following the fatal overdose of a 25-year-old man, culminated in a search warrant executed on September 12, 2024, at an apartment on Ashley River Road.
The investigation into the suspected overdose led detectives to Forrest, who was identified as the potential supplier. During the search of the residence, officers seized over 400 fentanyl pills, cocaine, cocaine base, marijuana, and a variety of prescription drugs. In addition to the drugs, detectives discovered seven firearms, including an AK-47 and a stolen handgun.
Forrest, who was under supervision by the South Carolina Probation, Pardon, and Parole Board at the time of his arrest, now faces a series of serious charges. These include:
- Trafficking fentanyl
- Possession with intent to distribute (PWID) cocaine
- PWID cocaine base
- PWID marijuana
- Distribution of fentanyl
- Three counts of PWID in close proximity to a school or park
- Possession of a stolen handgun
- Seven counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime
- Seven counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
The arrest is part of Charleston Police Department’s ongoing efforts to combat the opioid crisis in the region. “The department remains committed to addressing the opioid epidemic through education, enforcement, and collaboration with community partners,” said a department representative.
